How do I tumble to assess section placements?

OVERVIEW
Schedulers should tumble-to-assess section placements in order to test whether the schedule will work for students and staff. Tumbling-to-assess parts of the whole school incrementally will result in clearer next-steps and help save time. Tumble-to-assess is used to gain visibility into possible schedules rather than to enroll students in sections.

When: Tumble-to-assess section placements when you have placed sections sufficient to satisfy most requests for a specific part of your student population:

  • By grade-level

  • By academic program/pathway

How: Use the filters on the Students Board to find the subset of students you wish to Tumble. Once you are viewing the set of students you wish to tumble, click the 'Set Up A Tumble' button.

TUMBLE-TO-ASSESS SETTINGS

General Settings
Set tumble to override capacity and run a faster tumble. This will allow a scheduler to tumble efficiently to assess whether the general shape of the schedule will work.

  1. Navigate to the "General Settings" tab

  2. Under "Balance" select "Override Capacity"

  3. Under 'Speed vs. Quality' select "Fast"

Course Settings
Schedulers wishing to set a subject area load order can do so in the Course Settings menu.

  1. Navigate to "Course Settings" tab

  2. Select "Choose By Group"

  3. Move the subject areas to the preferred subject area load order

TUMBLE

  1. Before pressing 'Go' to start the tumble, make sure that no scheduling teammates are using the Abl Master Scheduler. While a tumble is running, no one will be able to use the Abl scheduling environment.

  2. Press 'Go'. In the confirmation dialogue, confirm that you want to begin a tumble.

  3. Progress indicators will show the tumble's progress.

  4. Pressing 'Stop' will halt the tumble. The progress made from the incomplete tumble can be saved, though this is generally not recommended unless the tumble is nearly complete.
